Icefields Parkway and scattering your ashes

The Icefields Parkway is one of the most beautiful drives in the world. It starts at Jasper in the Jasper National Park in Canada and ends at Banff in the Banff National Park. There are numerous places in the park to host a gathering for your wake. There are numerous horse trails for your guests to experience the area. Be prepared for snow and muddy trails.

Lake Louise is a busy area with hikers and skiers. The best time to see it is in the evening when all the crowds have gone. If you want to select this area to scatter your ashes, you will need to have your spirit whisperer take a hike away from the crowds and into the backcountry. An evening stroll in the summer with your guests would be a great way to be transported to your final spot for scattering your ashes.

Peyto Lake is a glacier fed lake that is a nice turquoise color and attracts a lot of crowds. You can get the best view of it from the highest point on the Icefields Parkway: Bow Summit. Until you see Peyto Lake in person, you can not understand the beauty of it. Photographs just can't capture what you will see in person. Consider a horseback ride for your spirit whisperer to take in route to your designated place to scatter ashes.

The Columbia Ice field is one of the largest non polar ice fields and it feeds 8 glaciers. A 325 square kilometer snow field melts and flows into three different oceans. The ice field can be seen from the parkway or you can hire a snow coach to travel across the ice.

So if you are interested in making the Icefields Parkway area you final destination. Take a car trip then get out and walk until you see where you would like to rejoin this beautiful piece of nature.

Spread my ashes on the football field

This was the weekend that has everyone talking about college football. All those passionate fans that believe their team is the best on the country this year. Fans travel thousands of miles to watch their teams in a bowl game. It is a week long party for the team and the fans. Some fans think the system is flawed but all fans love their teams no matter what happens on the field.

These fans bleed school colors and support their team and school above most everything in their life. You have seen them in the stands when it is freezing and they have no shirt on. Of course, after watching one of these shirt-less fans pour ice water over his head in freezing weather, it appears that some are much closer to spreading their ashes at a young age.

Today, universities that have these really rabid sports fans have started to let them spread their ashes on the sports fields. While some schools still mistakenly believe that ashes are a health hazard, the University of Florida, a team that has been in the championship game two of the last 3 years is one of the schools that allow spreading of ashes at the stadium. It is no wonder they win so many games. Texas A&M may have the 12 man tradition but Florida has a slew of spirits to help

Colleges should install memorial gardens to benefit their alumni and scholarship donors. For years they have put big donors' names on buildings. Why not spread their ashes at a school memorial? Most people have fond memories of their college years and would love to have their ashes spread at the school they attended for their education. This time really shaped our life so why not let your body spend eternity there. School spirit would take on a whole new meaning.

Future ways to spread my ashes

A lot of readers will not be needing to spread their ashes for quite a number of years so I thought we would take a look at some possible future ways to do it. Just as cremation has started to replace a lot of regular burials, we will see the scattering of ashes change over time. Some ways to scatter ashes today are not available to everyone due to high cost.

The space elevator and low cost commercial launchers will open up the business of putting ashes into orbit or sending them out into space. Memorial space flights are taking place today but only a small amount of ashes is taken. Finally, as we start colonizing the moon, there will be a place there on the moon for those that have decided they would rather be there than on Earth. Those that die there will surely stay there. Lunar service is supposed to start in the next decade around 2010.

Remote controlled aircraft called UAVs or unmanned aerial vehicles will be adapted for aerial scattering of ashes. Companies will be able to fly these over remote locations and scatter ashes anywhere you would like to be placed for your final resting spot.

As robotic devices become more prevalent in society, a special kind of robot will be released. Ashes will be mixed in with the material that makes the outer skin of the robot. You will be able to live on as part of a mechanical being.

Memorial structures will not just be built for remembering love ones. The structures will actually be made from ashes mixed in with the material itself. These structures will themselves become a form of mausoleum having special protection as burial sites and memorials. Another similar method will be to make individual markers from ashes and place them in a green burial site. These markers will become houses for animals and birds.
